About Digs Lodgings

Digs Lodgings

Digs Lodgings is owned and operated by the Cohen family. We have always loved discovering the great outdoors and the many adventures on offer, as well as spending quality time together as a family. After many years of competing in Ironman and triathlon, Larry discovered the exciting world of mountain biking. He enjoyed it so much, he got the rest of the family involved and now we are all hooked.

In early 2017 Larry went on a mates MTB trip to Derby to ride Blue Tier and Blue Derby. He fell in love with the amazing trails and quaint laid-back town. Not long thereafter the Cohens decided to buy an old miners cottage and, after a healthy renovation, Derby Digs Cottage was born. The name “Digs” means lodgings or living quarters, as well as a play on the fact that Derby was an old mining town.

In early 2018 we will complete work on a second dwelling on the same piece of land to be christened “Derby Digs Barn”. Built in the style of an American quacker barn, it will comfortably sleep 8 and also enjoy stunning views of the MTB tracks and Ringarooma River.

The Future

Before the paint was dry on Derby Digs Cottage the MTB fraternity announced the establishment of a massive Mountain Bike Park in Maydena, Tasmania. Things quickly progressed and what started out as a plan for a cottage in Derby soon became a vision for “Digs Lodgings”.

We are proud to announce that the Digs Lodgings property portfolio has grown. In early 2018 we will have 2 more “Digs” in Maydena. Schoolmasters Digs, which used to be the Schoolmasters house, will sleep 12 and is located adjacent to the base for the Maydena MTB Park. Maydena Digs is a smaller cottage that will sleep 7 and backs onto the MTB Park.

Digs Lodgings Vision

Our vision is to specialize in self-contained accommodation for mountain bikers and their families. We aim to provide accommodation that encourages and enhances quality time spent with friends and family.

All properties have excellent quality mattresses, bedding and linen to ensure a comfortable night’s sleep after a day out on the trails. Each property is fully self-contained and has complete bike care and storage facilities. There are also large entertaining areas including a deck’s with awesome views, BBQ, and open living spaces to maximize quality time together.

My Husband and son stayed at Schoolmasters Digs on a recent mountain biking trip. Great location right next to the Maydena mountain bike park. Lovely and clean property. Great to be able to clean the bikes at the end of the day with bike wash, stands and bike tools available. Fast communication from hosts will stay again. Currently staying at Derby Digs Cottage as a family. Again great location close to the trailhead. Short walk/ ride to local cafes and local pub great for a meal but need to book. Accommodation is a lovely clean and spacious property. Wood heater adds a lovely ambient feel and has kept us nice and warm. Nice to sit out on the deck and read a book soaking up the winter sun looking down over the river. Will be back again. Angie Rooke, Hobart.

Stayed for a week in November, enjoyed every minute. Well thought out accommodation sleeps 8 and rest of house is big enough to accommodate this many. Deck is fantastic you can start your day by having a beer on the deck and finish your day by having a bowl of cereal after a long ride....or maybe the other way round. Location is perfect 50 m from trailhead and also on the same road as the shuttle to black stump. Highly recommend. Adrian Spath.

Stayed here as a group of 12 mountain bikers. Was FANTASTIC! Location is close to everything, walking distance to local cafe and trailheads not far at all! The accommodation was very clean, spacious and modern. Would highly recommend! Tarrn Elverd, Yarra Ranges Council, VIC.
