About Digs Lodgings

Digs Lodgings

Digs Lodgings is owned and operated by the Cohen family. We have always loved discovering the great outdoors and the many adventures on offer, as well as spending quality time together as a family. After many years of competing in Ironman and triathlon, Larry discovered the exciting world of mountain biking. He enjoyed it so much, he got the rest of the family involved and now we are all hooked.

In early 2017 Larry went on a mates MTB trip to Derby to ride Blue Tier and Blue Derby. He fell in love with the amazing trails and quaint laid-back town. Not long thereafter the Cohen’s decided to buy an old miners cottage and, after a healthy renovation, Derby Digs Cottage was born. The name “Digs” means lodgings or living quarters, as well as a play on the fact that Derby was an old mining town.

In mid-2018 we completed the building of a second dwelling on Derby Digs Land called “Derby Digs Barn”. Built in the style of an American Quaker barn, it comfortably sleeps 8 and also enjoy stunning views of the MTB tracks and Ringarooma River.

Before the paint was dry on Derby Digs Cottage the MTB fraternity announced the establishment of Maydena Mountain Bike Park in Maydena, Tasmania. Things quickly progressed and what started out as a plan for a cottage in Derby soon became a vision to provide short term rentals to cater to Mountain Bikers and their families – and the brand “Digs Lodgings” was established.

The Digs Lodgings property portfolio also includes Schoolmasters Digs and Maydena Digs Cottage in Maydena, As the name suggests Schoolmasters which used to the Schoolmasters residence, of the primary school which is now the home of the Maydena Bike Park. It sleeps 12 comfortably in 4 bedrooms and is located adjacent to the base for the Maydena MTB Park. Maydena Digs Cottage is a very cozy and quaint Cottage just 300m from the Maydena Bike Park.

Testimonials

Hi Larry and Cheryl, I just wanted to say a very big thank you for our stay in Derby Digs Cottage. Such a fabulous comfortable and clean accommodation. The best part was sitting on the deck after a day riding, watching the kids still going on the pump track. We loved Derby and would certainly come back and hopefully stay again. Thanks so much, Fiona

My Husband and son stayed at Schoolmasters Digs on a recent mountain biking trip. Great location right next to the Maydena mountain bike park. Lovely and clean property. Great to be able to clean the bikes at the end of the day with bike wash, stands and bike tools available. Fast communication from hosts will stay again. Currently staying at Derby Digs Cottage as a family. Again great location close to the trailhead. Short walk/ ride to local cafes and local pub great for a meal but need to book. Accommodation is a lovely clean and spacious property. Wood heater adds a lovely ambient feel and has kept us nice and warm. Nice to sit out on the deck and read a book soaking up the winter sun looking down over the river. Will be back again. Angie Rooke, Hobart.

Stayed for a week in November, enjoyed every minute. Well thought out accommodation sleeps 8 and rest of house is big enough to accommodate this many. Deck is fantastic you can start your day by having a beer on the deck and finish your day by having a bowl of cereal after a long ride....or maybe the other way round. Location is perfect 50 m from trailhead and also on the same road as the shuttle to black stump. Highly recommend. Adrian Spath.
