Introducing Warburton Digs

Places to stay in Warburton: Check out our new Digs

The Digs Lodgings family is excited to welcome the newest addition to our property portfolio, Warburton Digs. Located in the beautiful Victorian Yarra Ranges, Warburton is a fantastic spot for exploring, cycling and hiking in some of the state’s most beautiful countryside.

If you’re looking for places to stay in Warburton, you can’t go past Warburton Digs. We welcomed our first guests in late 2019 and loved seeing their photos and receiving fantastic feedback about their stays. Like all our properties, Warburton Digs has facilities to cater for families and mountain biking groups. The bike cleaning, maintenance and storage facilities will come in handy when the highly-anticipated Warburton Bike Park is built.

Why you’ll love Warburton Digs

All our properties are labours of love. Whether they’re new builds like Derby Digs Barn in Derby, or large-scale renovations like Warburton Digs, the same attention to detail and solid craftsmanship goes into each.

Warburton Digs is a self-contained house. It’s the perfect spot for a family getaway or group trip, with four bedrooms configured to comfortably sleep 10. It’ll be hard to decide your favourite spot. Is it relaxing in front of the crackling wood fire? Or enjoying the view of the Mount Donna Buang from the deck? Take a minute on the deck to listen to the native birdlife. The friendly neighbourhood kookaburras often make themselves heard, with their raucous laughter bringing a smile to our guests faces.

For the road cyclists, trail bike and mountain bike riders there’s no better base for your trip. From our front yard, hit the tarmac and head up Mount Donna Buang for a climbing challenge or try the many trails throughout the Yarra Valley. The Lilydale to Warburton Trail is a favourite with locals and visitors alike. The 40km trail (or 80km return) starts at Lilydale Recreation Reserve and finishes at Station Road Warburton. Travelling the route of the iconic rail trail, you’ll take in spectacular scenery through the Yarra Valley, passing through bushland, wineries and farmland.

Warburton Digs is just 400m from the river, which is a fantastic spot to cool off on hot days. You’re also just over 1km to the heart of Warburton where you can explore, eat and shop.

Warburton bike park progress

We can’t wait for work to start on Warburton Mountain Bike Destination. This exciting project will be delivered in several stages, with plans for 160km of trails.

Stage one of the plan includes three zones for riding:

  • Mount Donna Buang, on the north side, with the “Drop-A-K” signature trail – a 1000 metre vertically descending trail
  • Mt Little Joe, on the south side, with trails for all experience levels, including beginners and families
  • Mt Tugwell, on the south side, with more a challenging and intermediate trail, including climbs and descents

To date, more than $11million in local, state and federal government funding has been committed to the project. We’ll keep you up to date on our Facebook page as the project progresses.

The Warburton Digs story

After establishing our Tasmanian properties in the MTB destinations of Derby and Maydena, we were excited to learn about the plans for a new mountain bike destination in Victoria.

About two years ago Digs’ owner Larry received an accommodation enquiry from the Yarra Ranges Council. The group stayed at Derby Digs Cottage and Schoolmasters Digs in Maydena while doing research for the Warburton project.

Larry’s ears pricked up! He was familiar with the Warburton area, using it as a training ground to prepare for Ironman competitions. After investigating the project more, investing in Warburton became a must!

Things to do in Warburton

If you enjoy a drop (or two) of wine, you might like to visit some of the Yarra Valley’s award-winning wineries. Cycling Vine Tours is a fun way to see the sights. You’ll take a leisurely ride stopping at local vineyards for wine tastings and lunch.

The Blue Lotus Water Garden is another popular spot for visitors, with a 14-acre display of lotus and waterlilies. Wildlife lovers may enjoy a visit to Healesville Sanctuary, home of the Australian Wildlife Centre. The centre is home to an animal hospital, which treats more than 2000 native animals every year. There are plenty of opportunities for animal encounters at the sanctuary, making this a popular spot for families and visitors of all ages.

We have more ideas of great things to do around Warburton here.
